Hi Neko . Good news items 🤔 Jenny and I are downsizing and looking to move house. Decluttering and generally shifting stuff. My daughter is having her child in October and my son graduated from university. I'm only working two days a week and transitioning to retirement. I'm trying not to unravel from images from the US but hope as we know is a fragile thing . Most important is sending a few dollars to decent people trying to get back on track.

Va bene.

You are truly kind. If you and Jenny come to the states please use the guest room :)

Thank you kind soul. We are hoping to go to the UK and Europe in 2025. Hope you know the new downsized Casa Adelaide would have a spare room for weary travellers also 🙏

Love the natural history notes. Speaking of monarchs, we were having a conversation the other day in-town about how a good monarchy would be much preferable to the state of democracy, now. Wondering how our American neighbors are feeling about 1776 at this point. Speaking of grizzly, good news in this part of the world being that grizzly bear numbers have doubled in the past decade according to the latest DNA and other research, and they are learning to live in the agricultural mosaic pretty peacefully. If i had been around in 1924 i'd have wagered there'd be zero grizzlies around by now over a 100% increase. Amazing.

Dealing with the death of m mother in law this week, but the bright spot was watching my 16 year old son embrace a train commute into Boston and his internship without missing a beat. It sounds stupid, but it’s wild watching your kid just magically grow up right before your eyes. “I got this mom” not the attitude I was expecting.

Our official start to summer in San Diego is the arrival of the Monarchs and Giant Swallowtails. Their dance just brings happiness.

My big "good news" moment is getting a chance to possibly interview one of my heroes, the singer/piano player Akiko Yano.

Have seen zero monarchs yet in Virginia but the last few years it’s been later each year so there’s still hope.

It has been a few days between posts from you, I miss them (confessions of a lonely old man).

Cars are material, butterflies are a shared moment with nature and time. Thanks again for your wonderful dispatches!

Watching the news about horrible flooding in VT today and worrying about someone I’ve never met. Cant say I’ve ever done that before! Hoping you and yours are unaffected by all that, NC.

Folks, please pay attention to what is happening with climate change. The scientists are stunned by whats occuring. It was 138 F “feels like” in Iran yesterday but far worse it was 75 F actual temp today in Antarctica, where it is the middle of winter.

Good news: I transplanted some day lilies this spring and to my surprise they have flowered. I was expecting them to take a year to get used to their new surroundings before flowering.

We are seeing Monarchs and a good amount of fat fuzzy bumblebees and fireflies in Oak Park/Chicago. It's a relief!

Good news! I saw 2 amazing shows in the last 2 nights, Bacon Brothers @ Birchmere, and The Pretenders @ Warner. It truly feeds my soul to be enjoying live music again. Lots more great ones lined up. I can hardly wait to see YOU, Neko, in October @ Strathmore (on my birthday, no less!). In this crazy world, certain precious things - music, nature, and my writing and photogtaphy - keep me from spiraling down the drain of despair. Find what feeds your soul and hang on tight folks. Peace & love to you all.
