I know you first as a musician and now as a writer. Reading your writing brings so much into focus for me. It's wonderful to meet and understand more of you through your writing. I look forward to reading more!
You are in for a hell of a ride in "Barry", Neko! I just finished watching it. The ending is phenomenal. It's also really surprising to watch Henry Winkler's performance in the final two seasons. You forget he's the Fonz. Which for anyone that lived through the 70s is a hell of a feat. Enjoy! I hope you don't get too much harassment at the Border.
How is it that this magnificent woman and her magical words swoop in and save my soul every time it is in desperate need. Feeling all these feels. Thank you, dear Neko. Peace and Love to you all.
Your comment about absence struck home. I was a celebration of life on Sunday for a pillar of my local folk music community. It was like a night at the folk club, interspersed with tributes to the deceased. That club is one of my musical homes, the first place I ever performed solo, and it’s existence is an important part of nourishing my soul. While I anticipate the vibe may change a bit, I’m sure it will keep going, which would be the best possible tribute.
Neko, I think Lulabell seems to know. She has lived longer than most cows, and her life is not unexplained.
Can't remember the year now. Think it was 07, or 08. You were playing Bumbershoot in front of a massive crowd in the stadium. Off on the side, near the art installations, was a small stage where Tim Finn was playing. What a pro, his old band Split Enz were just meant to be. Another consummate professional like yourself that endure at the highest level and deliver again and again. One of the songs I heard that day was from Imaginary Kingdom. Salt to the Sea is a really good grieving song. Give it a listen.
If you enjoy this, I would love to send you a copy of an album he did that fell through the cracks (in the eighties), some how and never received proper distribution. My vinyl copy had DEMO stamped on it in gold. Any way, something tells me it might be of inspiration to you. Especially in finding new material for NP. Actually, it would be a CD.
Your heart is bold and unexpected things will come to fruition.
You are a glorious human creature, Neko. Thank you for your words. They are Medicine. I can't wait to see you in Philly in October and for the arrival of your new record in the mail. I loved your book. It floored me. The art you bring to the world is healing. Thank you. So much.
I think Rachel Maddow does a good job calming me down about the news, for when Manfriend is unavailable. She puts things in historical perspective, which (usually) helps. And makes sure people know how they can fight what’s happening. Plus it’s only once a week, which is enough for me!
Thank you for this and for all of your writing, Neko. I recently finished reading your memoir. And every post here has some grounding power for me, always, important human reminders.
Your writing is wonderful. You are a sweet souled person. This world today is not easy to bear emotionally, but as every generation has, bear it we must. I’m horrified at how the border police have treated you. But some people have not had a good day until they’ve bullied someone. Stay strong girl. Much love.
Hi Neko.
When you write it draws me in , I feel like I'm running in the terminal or watching the night.
I just know that people don't often take time to complement a skill, I noticed that right from the moment I entered the lung, vicariously of course.
I spent one July 4 in the US as a tourist with a bunch of generous folk in Portland or some suburb close to it.
The fireworks were insane and in a tinder dry environment, yikes.
I just read Frederick Douglass speech what is the fourth of July to the slave every year to ground myself.
Take a minute to notice how we all love you here.
That is a good thing.
Ciao for now.
Now I have to look up that speech. Thanks!
You're welcome 🙏
"the skeleton of a silk scarf" should be a lyric for sure

Dang woman, so sorry for your hard times, but on the flip side, your way with words is beautiful. Thank you for sharing, Neko.
