Thanks to all of you for your excellent responses to “What if You Are the Poop on The Bottom of Your Shoe.” They were all helpful and I really enjoyed the kindness shown by everyone.
Thanks for the post, Neko. A wicked moon it was, indeed. Awhile back we had two pure white Percherons. They were sisters. Occasionally they would both back their butts up together for a scratch, blocking out the sun. Offering up a scratch was a small price to pay for what they brought to the day. Good luck with the tour. I'll look forward to notes from the road.
I love Amy Casey’s work! She just had a solo show here in Chicago that I was bummed I missed. The only thing I’m working on shedding right now is hard beliefs about who I am, and trying to make more wiggle room for who I might want to be. That sounds romantic, but it’s really uncomfortable and tedious sometimes.
Spring itchy discontent here outside of Austin. The local barred owls are courting here, too--day and night, sounding like randy (but somehow thoughtful?) jungle creatures. Hearing them reminds me to get on with the business of living, despite/alongside the human emotions of the day.
Aww, I wish I could help scratch some horses. I don't know any. But my cats have been getting lots of brushing the last couple of weeks, going through their spring shed.
Personally, I am just shedding sweat -- perimenopausal hot flashes have got me feeling quite miserable.
These are the perfect thoughts for right now. Everyone is itchy, the cats have new baby fur after every combing, the full moon was absolute bs, the blackbirds here are so excited they preen at themselves in sideview mirrors and sing. Congrats on the new record.
Shedding my need to people please is my daily challenge, then straight up defiance to anxiety and acceptance of my bodily shape form and person.
I need to share that our pooch Jett backs up for a butt scratch as well and the absurd pleasure he has is signaled by a lazy tongue peeing out of his mouth. He must be horsey like that.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Oh thank you Neko for finally unlocking the years long mystery of the owls I always hear at my cottage in Minden, Ontario!!!!! I could never figure out which one it was! They always seem to call to their mate in middle of the night and would wake me up.
What an extraordinary creature. So nice to wake up to this blog. I’m fascinated by the head turns. And what a face.
Hearing their call is magical
Will see you in Asheville….. again!

Neko, you are my favorite, and have been for many years.
Can't wait to see you opening for the Indigo Girls at the Zoo, and with the NPs later on. "Who cooks for youuuuu" 🦉😻

I could watch that video all day ❤️. I hear this call a lot where I live - nice to be able to connect it with the species. Thanks for sharing!
