Thanks to all of you for your excellent responses to “What if You Are the Poop on The Bottom of Your Shoe.” They were all helpful and I really enjoyed the kindness shown by everyone. I know we all say it all the time, but social media lacks kindness most of the time so it was a sweet balm.
The full moon last week was a real beast-maker! So many people I know felt overly skint and see-through and grouchy, and a lot were sick with things other than Covid for a change. I guess that’s early spring for you. I have been seasonally, spiritually itchy. I realized this yesterday when I was hanging out with the horses. They are needy and at my elbow all the time as they are shedding like crazy and want a good scratching that only a human hand-rake can give. They follow me around and cut me off a lot. Often they just back up toward me with their huge butts; they want scratched between their giant velvety buttcheeks. I mean, how cruel is it that it’s the one place they can’t reach?! And it gets so sweaty in there! Poor guys… So I scratch them and they curl into giant grateful pretzel shapes, sometimes in danger of falling over the bliss is so overpowering. Carrots are good and all, but if you really wanna make a horse love you, give a good long scratch-assist. They don’t forget. (But don’t be surprised if they greet you ass-first after that, haha!)
What are you shedding right now? Are you feeling a hopefulness or still feeling an itch you can’t reach? I’m still maintaining. Getting ready for the new New Pornographers tour that starts next week. I’m excited and I’ll be checking in with you from there for the next few weeks. (P.S. We have a new record out called Continue As A Guest! Check it out! The cover artwork is by the brilliant Amy Casey! We are so pleased she was willing to be a part!)
Here is the sound I heard most lying awake before the full moon: barred owl booty calls. The moon was working on them, too!
What an extraordinary creature. So nice to wake up to this blog. I’m fascinated by the head turns. And what a face.
Will see you in Asheville….. again!
