I haven’t turned off the classical station since I walked into this hotel room two days ago. I’m supposed to be on a plane home but the universe had different plans. There are storms and flight delays… airline staffing and unknotting. I’d give anything to be on a plane home, but instead I’m lucky to be in this out-of-time room with sheer, peach-colored curtains and beautiful black-and-white portraits of movie stars.
Thank you for your strong voice, we are LEGION and we will keep fighting. I hope the classical notes fill your spirit with some comfort the Supreme Court would love to tear away. ❤️❤️
Ex-pats all over the world are distraught and angry about what's going on at home. We still vote, we still love our country. We still use our voice. We will ALWAYS care. <3
"I will never stop. I will not stop with filthy passion all over me. I will carry everyone in my body next to my unstoppable love. You are here with me."
Powerful and glorious. I can hear you shout that out loud as Stravinsky & Rachmaninov pour forth.
Intolerance is growing. And it’s testing the foundation of Democratic values . There’s a famous photograph of Woody Guthrie with his guitar on which is emblazoned the affirmation “THIS MACHINE KILLS FASCISTS”.
I’m really glad your tour with the Indigo Girls went well. Wasn’t able to snag a stern grove ticket but I’m sure your show was amazing. And yes, we have a severe problem in this country. And we have to encourage people to vote. We need to squash this minority With our right to vote.
The train wreck of colonialism, capitalism and patriarchal privilege's make me want to hug a koala, luckily being in Oz means I'm closer, don't worry there are plenty of dickheads here wanting to build apartments on their gum trees. Writing to you from Kaurna Land never ceded and if only we had one iota of the generosity of first nation people. I'm a big pastoral symphony fan myself fwiw.
As a Canadian, I appreciate this. Not because we don’t want you, Neko, because we’d take you in a second. But I love my U.S. family and friends and I truly believe the majority of Americans do NOT agree with the right wing evangelical nonsense being pushed by your SCOTUS and its ideological kin. Please keep up the fight. Someone needs to be on the side of love, of equality and equity and our LGBTQIA family and all those who suffer and will continue to suffer unless these people are stopped. I might add, as a lawyer, the decisions are BAFFLING. Like, fail out of school and change your name wrong and embarrassing.
Besides, it’s not like Canada has it all figured out, believe me...
I loved the show at the Zoo. It was so nice to hear your songs again and to hear the Indigo Girls with a full band. I share your pain and anger at the state of things with the SCOTUS - and one of the cases was brought on false info! No one asked the web designer to do the work that was the basis of the case! How is that even possible that it got that far. Very very sad. Indeed. Good luck with your laundry.
In the years when I thought that the purpose of education was to educate as opposed to certify, my friends and I got into the habit of pulling group all nighters with WBCN in the background almost muted but there to provide a comfort zone. After a near tragedy when a bunch of zonked out upperclassmen got sucked into the WBCN web with the complete track of Gene Autry and the gang's reprise of the whole hour plus of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, we agreed to switch to the classical music station out of Boston and no near misses. (Although one guy did it by himself and turned up the volume and got sucked into Wagner's Tristan and Isolde, but he was pre-med and was unsuitable for music in general.) In a later iteration when I was still convinced I was taking this particular program for education as opposed to advanced certification, I would put KPLU which was in those days run at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma. Reading and writing and thinking with the world of music that KPLU presented worked very well. The station is no longer KPLU although I think it's still at 88.5FM. Don't live in Washington any more, so there are lots of alternatives.
Neko, have you considered doing a "residency" on Sirius XM? Might want to think about it...could do it from home some time with a month off touring. Lots of channels where you would be a natural fit; but, one of Stephen Van Zandt's channels might be the best fit existentially as opposed to musically.
After all, your experience with the Classical music station shows that Lou Reed's idea of soul-saving by the "Listening to the fine, fine music her life was saved by Rock and Roll" might be too narrowly defined.
I love how you warm my soul with your soothing tone, colors and magical moments that arise when you speak of your day- May I be a better writer as I hear your voice deep inside my bones weather they crack or not I am a new mold of clay when I hear you breathe life into your writing!

"sickened by their controlling, hateful, fearful motivations disguised as religion" THIS!

Sing it, sister. Yes to everything...the bitter disappointment, outrage, and unending determination.
Thanks to you and to everyone else who continues to stand up to those right-wing sickos.

Saw you at your last show with them at Clackamas County. Amazing as always. ❤️
And thanks for your unwavering support. As one of your many LGBTQIA fans, it truly means so much - especially these days.
Hope you can get back home soon. Safe travels!!

It’s disgusting, the rights that are being dialled back.
Also: is that the SF Fairmont?;)

When I travel, local classical stations are my solace. They transcend time and allow us all to forget the toxic BS.
