I always enjoyed the Stewart Copeland Police songs. "Does Everyone Stare"is a particular favorite. You just know Sting was a pain in the ass about recording Stewart's songs and he had to create his alter ego Klark Kent. I still have my Klark Kent green EP, which apparently inspired Dave Grohl to create the Foo Fighters according to his book. Have you ever heard Copeland's soundtrack to "Rumble Fish"? The man can make music with a type writer! He's a god damn genius.

I'm loving these write ups - I've been diving back into some of these tracks and rediscovering them through your narrative and the combination reminds me that the soundtrack to my youth was superb, I didn't imagine it all. Thank you!

Heya I wasn't /planning/ on being here but this one's pretty good. Another /synchronicity/ he he he. Okay so I was trying to think of what I wanted to practice on ye old guitar today and I've been wanting to learn the solo from 'man'. So I went to the internet for the fifth millionth time to see if someone had transcribed it because I'm just too lazy to learn by ear apparently. Soooo I somehow landed on the photo search for "neko case guitar man". Honestly I don't know how I got to the photo search, it's a mystery. But there was this pic of you standing on an amplifier and I was like "aww cutie pie" so I clicked on it and there was an article from 2009 and from a guitar magazine so I went to check it out. So here you are standing on this amp and I'm reading the article and I see you use an amplifier from a manufacturer Carr! WHICH IS MY LAST NAME. And so you know how it is when you find your last name somewhere you have to look it up. So I go to their website and I see the amp you use and I'm like oh shit... THATS THE FUCKING AMP YOUR STANDING ON 😭😭😭 Anyway not only am I now going to buy a Carr amp someday because it's obligatory, but I'm going to 100% marry the person who prints out this photo for me in poster size 😂 anyways STOP HAUNTING ME. but also i love u.

Thanks for reminding me of this song. I avoided Synchronicity like the plague after being a fan of the earlier records. Even Ghost In The Machine was a disappointment to my anti-commercial punk snobbishness. But about their musicianship, Sting certainly held his own as a bass player. Unfortunately the 1983 disc of their double live album is the earliest recording readily available but try to seek out bootlegs from the late 70's. They really stretched out. 7 minute versions of "So Lonely", "Can't Stand Loosing You", and "Bed's Too Big Without You". I've got a recording of "Roxanne" that runs to ten minutes, every one of them slamming! Though it should be noted that Sting has readily admitted his ego ruined what he referred to as "Stewart's band".

Thanks for the reminder of this album and pointing to a song I didn't remember. I'm listening to the album for the first time in a helluva long time. and am confused about one thing. Thought experiment coming --would the band have been better and possibly still around being brilliant if instead of having the bass player, they relied on Copeland for the drums and given Sting an acoustic, modern classical guitar and turned him loose on that. Let him be less of the prima donna, and keep him tethered a bit. Probably not...

I don't know how close you feel to Ukraine, but I think it's kind of a spiritual home to a lot of western Canadians. I have no Ukrainian roots and I'm heartbroken.

I mentally group this one with songs like "Der Kommissar" (we heard the After The Fire version on the radio rather than the Falco original) and Elton John's "Nikita", where some obvious embodiment of intelligence, beauty, or other desirable trait is being subverted by a conformist authoritarian regime and must be constantly warned and protected - or just lusted after futilely.

This made me very happy. The Police were my first concert in 1980 -- was lucky enough to see them in a small venue. Synchronicity is the Police album I go back to the least (probably because it was so omnipresent), so I'm glad to have an excuse to revisit it.

Yow. Haven't heard that one since I was 13. I'll go back and listen again; my memories of it are not positive. (But hey, I was 13.) I have been thinking about the Police recently, in that they're one of very few bands with lead drums.

Oh wait. I was thinking of a different tune. "Is that my mother on the phone?"

Yes. Great song. The groove is awesome. That album is great because you have such big hits and such strange oddities as well. It's a shame they stopped after this album, just when things were getting really interesting... But then, maybe its better to go out strong. Either way, great band. Proof that the whole is better than the sum of the parts.

I don't miss the 80s either because I was mostly a toddler, but last night I was watching another gen zer obsess over princess Diana fashion and I though, for the millionth time, "I don't miss the 90s" and I imagine that's a similar vibe 😂 I don't miss it but I appreciate all the culture it gave us even still 💕 thanks for the groovy tunes.

I also don't miss the early 2000s and I particularly would really rather have the low rise jeans phenomenon erased from my memory. Thanks for the eating disorder! Burn in hell!!

I was also thinking I'm under 45 and I don't listen to "every breath" or "Roxanne" anymore because of the blatant misogyny. Creepy McCreeper songs. "You look look wonderful tonight" is also on the blueball list.
