And not late 80’s bullshit that only consisted of angry white dudes jerking eachother off, the real passionate kind that made art to help us resist and weave community.
A couple days ago, I took my 7-year-old kid to a poetry event and had similar thoughts! We saw the poet Anne Waldman perform at the event honoring Refaat Alareer, a Palestinian poet killed by Israel about a year ago. Seeing her perform her own words was soul-stirring and mesmerizing. It was novel to hear someone really rise to the moment and speak with such anger and horror without being cryptic or oblique.
At the end, she actually sang an Allen Ginsburg poem and I've been reflecting on how much we need more music like this.
Love the Des Demonas and excited to see you like them too Neko! Can't wait for the new album to be released. Head to In The Red Records' page to learn more...
I've had a lot of Neil Young's more heavier pieces on rotation as of late, especially On The Beach. It's quite telling how relevant a lot of his stuff is some 20 to 50 years after it was first released.
I didn't realize punk left! I'm guessing that you're an L7 fan. They're still around and kicking it. Thanks for introducing me to a new band. Brilliant!
Yes to more Punk Rock! As someone who mis-spent his 20's in Austin Tx in the 1980's this speaks to me. Sunday Worship Service, The Dicks, The Hickoids, The Big Boys, jerryskids and so many other loud, fast, and rude bands made up of more than just angry straight, white guys. Thanks for the tip on the Des Demonas, been a while since I had a good excuse to make the trip to the Sunset Tavern. If anyone wants more fun punk rock - check out my friends in The Abusements from Montgomery, AL (Start with "Alabamastan" on their latest release "Grievance Beerwater Repriesal" and go from there).
I am by-and-large not a fan of punk (sooooorrrry!), but gotta say that DD song is fucking *brilliant*!
Don't want to give anything away for those who haven't watched the video yet, but the last spoken part absolutely busted me up laughing! :::wicked evil grin:::
Now THAT is an anthem. Imagine what could have been had we taken back our country from the traitors in 1865. Fake reconstruction that left the south completely intact was a sin even worse than the original one of slavery.
I have recently observed, punk rock is here now, alive and well and mutated into a more ferocious form. The underground has come full circle: platforms, like radio, are not monetizing and paying nonconforming artists. We are back to selling merch from the back of our van, self promoting and booking tours. It’s glorious. See: Mannequin Pussy and Couch Slut for modern feminist punk rock. See OFF! and Deerhoof and Of Montreal and Sleepytime Gorilla Museum for DIY rock subculture commentary on the state of this godforsaken world. ( #punkrock #hardcore #newwave are forever )

Instantly made me think of Gil Scott-Heron’s “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised”. I bet it was amazing to see them live!

That song is a caffeinated soul bomb. Time for a defiance playlist.
Please share it when you make it!
I'll be sure to give them a listen.

I have this song on my playlist, it is the stuff of life itself. Music not crapped out of a corporate tube and labelled as music.
I'm feeling pretty whelmed and combobulated so I can handle some stimulation today, I'll play tunes while I pack moving boxes.

It'll rise again but it'll be a diverse working class coalition led by Black and Brown people
We can't let the white racists have a monopoly on The South
Never heard of this band before. They are awesome. Perfect for my mood lately. Music is one of the only things giving me hope right now.
Thanks for introducing me to a new to me band. Love the sound and ideas!

This rocks hard.
Thank you for hepping me to this band. 🤘🏻
Thanks for introduction and video. Hard to find people in this fragmented market. Happy new year. Hope is not dead.
