NEW ORLEANS LOVE

13

It’s a gorgeous day here in New Orleans. I’m sitting on a hotel balcony listening to roosters crow, mockingbirds chatter and people celebrating off in the distance. It’s a very relaxing symphony.

The morning started with a comforting rainshower which helped me oversleep. I’m not sorry. Morning coffee tasted better than usual in the NOLA downpour. I got off the bus to see the familiar, soft-worn facade of Tipitina’s glowing in post-shower sunshine. Everything around me looked lit from within. I get why people are so easily seduced by this city. There are no unfounded rumors about the magic here.

Soundcheck went long so we could practice the songs from the latest New Pornographers record. This tour is going nicely as of day three. I love being a musician, and playing a club like Tipitina’s feels like a present. There is so much energy in every board that makes the building – it’s a living being. It’s the real thing, not like the House of Blues’ copies but one of the originals itself. It is matter held together by something other than glue or nails. I am so honored and grateful every time we come. Thanks, Tipitina’s. I’m sure April in Paris is as lovely as they say, but given the choice I’d pick April in New Orleans every time.
