I had to go online and search “hats for huge heads” as no hats in any store can be squeezed on my dome without giving me an instant garroting headache. Luckily for me a couple of nice ladies in Poland whom I found on Etsy make them and I scored! They arrived just in time for the beautiful snow (finally!) this morning.
With you in the big head club. I was once very excited to buy a rain jacket that included a packable rain hat. I couldn’t squeeze that thing over to very top of my head, never mind pull it down for any sort of rain protection. It did give my friend and me a good laugh, and she got to keep the hat for her (regulation-sized) head. We’ve also had a good bit of fog out here in central Maryland. I live by a river, so it can get especially thick here and I love it. It makes everything so otherworldly. Happy New Year to you and yours!
While I’m one with (Karl) the fog 3/4 of the year, I can relate to the dream-like terrarium state that surrounds you. I am hopeful that its magic will soon transform into white water crystals blanketing your world as it should. And I must remain hopeful that the inhabitants of this planet will do much much more to mitigate this climate shift.
I grew up as a Quaker, and went to a Quaker high school in northern Pennsylvania. In the Quaker religious tradition, worship is mostly silent, but occasionally someone will stand up to speak as they are moved. I vividly remember one early spring when my calculus teacher, Paul Machemer, stood to speak of the recent thaw, and of rediscovering the strata of dog poo that had been hidden preserved by the ice and snow.
I hope your back does not hurt too much from shoveling.
I am also a big head. It wasn't a problem in the Army because our hats all went from pin-head to goliath as did our body types. Fatigue caps -- baseball caps basically only the uniform one was horribly cheap, but Derby ball caps through the Cav store worked well. Now, however, with the stupid expansion bands, it is impossible to find a ball cap that will fit comfortably. I have a couple that work, but should be easier. We big heads are victims of the one size fits all generation of clothiers.
By the way, heard this song this morning on Mark Lindsay's show on Sirrius XM 21, Little Steven's Underground Garage. If you don't recognize Mark Lindsay's name, you need to revisit the history of 60s American Music. Paul Revere and the Raiders was a Northwest Band that started in Idaho and had a vocalist/sax player named Mark Lindsay. However, when they actually started to get attention, they ditched the sax on stage and Lindsay was the front man. Paul Revere who's actual middle name was Revere was band leader but Lindsay was the face. They dressed in semi-revolutionary war uniforms, and were the featured act on one of the Rock and Roll TV shows. Kicks, Just Like Me, Who's It Gonna Be (Him or Me) and a string of hits. As is required for all garage bands who make records, they had a cover of LouieLouie with Mark on Sax. His weekend show, American Revolution seems to be dominated by flip sides, gems from albums and undiscovered bands.
I never heard of these guys before, but this is a great New Year's Eve song for people who no longer expect to have fun when expected to have it. I suspect like a lot of the folks who follow Ms Case and similar artists. https://youtu.be/ymAnmtWcL7I?si=95KDG01Yz0olOLWV
Your words always fill me with joy Neko - a thing that has been elusive this year. Thank you for curating your thoughts here. You can't imagine how much each one has lifted my spirits. Your craniotypical admirer, Mal.

"Regulation-sized." 😂
What a beautiful wish! Thank you. I wish the same for you and everyone reading this.

Happy New Year, Neko!
What beautiful words. May the new year bring you good things.
Thank you for your wishes, they were felt and of course sent back to you x
Sympathy. I too have a large hat size.

"...Wet, heavy horse shit" is 2024's ascendant vulgarity! It should be spread far and wide.
Thanks for bringing us in to your terrarium. Big headed, hat loving but challenged people unite!
My scone is large, but then I am large as a human animal. Hats off to you Neko
Beautiful wish! Wishing the same to all. I love these posts from you so much. 💜

Yeah, one size does not fit all, hat-wise.
Happy New Years.. yea we had some quite foggy days this past week in central VT.
Happy New Year! May there be peace, snow (where appropriate), hats for large heads, and horses coming out of the mist.
