Nearly lost me at "Bic." Yet the Pilot Varsity is perhaps the most perfect imperfect(re: disposable) thing one could, for a time, buy in a drugstore. Pelikan ink, in brown (Sienna-ish) for your fountain pen is beautiful, elegant, and oldy-worldy (especially if you mix with a bit of black). Thank you for a terribly satisfying 4 minutes.
Love a Pilot Varsity. They're a great gateway fountain pen. And if you're willing to risk staining everything, refillable with some force (to pop off the reservoir) and careful use of a syringe.
I was given a simple Pelikan fountain pen as a gift many years ago, which outlasted several relationships and served me awfully well— until I let it sit for too long and neglected to clean it.... I've had several others, but I loved the experience of writing and drawing with that pen. Now I'm rooting around the internet for a replacement, thanks to this sweet thread.
I love jetpens! That's where I get my refills for my Pilot G2 pens, which I love because the ink doesn't show on the other side of the paper, the writing is smooth, and the replaceable cartridge thing is as close as I can currently bring myself to going full fountain pen. My favorite color so far has been navy blue. It's almost black and fully gorgeous.
Wonder Pens in Toronto have a fabulous range of inks for fountain pens. They sell a waterproof black (make: Noodlers) that is the deepest black I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot) that you might want to check out. I stopped using Pilot Varsties when the pandemic hit ... but they are quite excellent. Happy New Year!
Ink wise, I'm a big fan of the Monteverde Noir series. They're almost black, with other tints, which means you can get away with writing in a dark purple on official stuff. Glass bottles and fairly cheap. For a black black, look for a document ink. Pilot Iroshizuku has a really dark black. Those are a bit pricey but they're really great quality.
I am so late to the game oh my gosh, but my all time fav pen is the Sharpie Rollerball .5. Such a juicy hot pen! Makes me write like a beautiful 18th century lady.
Also I clearly do not have distinguished gentleman pen lust so I'm just going to continue living my best trash like over here with my environmentally hatefully rainbow pens.
I'm almost a month late on these, I'm so behind on everything. Late millennial here (1984) with a deep love for pens. Especially fountain pens. My favourite is the Kaweco Sport; I have several styles, both plastic and brass. Kaweco also makes beautiful inks, the Midnight Blue is one of my favourites (but their Palm Green takes the first placefor me). Before that I used Waterman's Bleu-Noir ink.
Crazy Alan's Emporium next time you are in Chapel Hill. He's over at Timberlyne shopping center. He once cussed out a person who came in and asked for bic pens.....:P
Everyone's pen lust is making me feel like living into 2022. Thank you!
Re darker inks... Noodler's has sensual blues and blue-blacks in glass jars (with plastic lids): https://noodlersink.com/product-category/ink/blue/
(So lush you want to drink them.)
AH! Thank you!
*****rummages around to find the unopened bottle of noodlers black that I know is here somewhere 😂

The end all, be all for pen junkies.

Wait . . . the G2 TAKES REFILLS??? Sweet Jesus; total game changer. Thanks Meredith!
You're so welcome! Happy writing to you!
I agree! cartridges for permanent pens are notoriously horrible.
❤️ Pilot G2 4-EVA
Yes! I've had the same recycled bottle plastic 0.7 Pilot G2 for going on 10 years and I just buy ink for it.

This was good. I feel like this episode should have had a video, so we could experience the ink hitting the paper. It sounded impressive! Thank you.

Now I feel guilty every single penni mentioned in the last post is not recyclable 🥴

I always carry a refillable fountain pen. Tried many different blue inks, have come to use Waterman Serenity Blue as my ink of choice.
This post was an absolute delight! Thank you! What kind of fountain pen did you end up with?
And Pilot has a host of excellent inks, this is my favorite vendor: https://www.gouletpens.com/collections/pilot-ink?offset=24
Pilot also makes a great $20 refillable fountain pen, and it comes in various nib sizes, the 1.0mm stub is a particular favorite of mine. https://www.gouletpens.com/collections/pilot-metropolitan-fountain-pens
So much so, I apparently said it TWICE! LOL
