I was so afraid of horses when I was a child, but I hated carrots, so I would steal the bag of carrots from our refrigerator and walk up the street and feed them all to the horse that lived in the field at the mansion (a mansion in an otherwise lower middle class neighborhood). It is sweet to imagine the happy sounds the horses make when you walk into their house. My comparable stress-melter is when my cats both sit on my lap at the same time and purr. They don't even like each other that much, but they love me, so they compromise.

Thanks for those pictures this morning. I feel like a good friend wrote that to me.

When I’m in my backyard and the squirrels know that means I’ll be feeding them. They appear at my feet (literally) gazing up with their dark round eyes. They wait until I go inside and get the peanuts and fill each dish around the beds, then they and their buddies (more and more invitees each day lately) dash about gathering some and sitting over the pond eating others keeping a watchful eye on me. My neighbor traps them, I welcome them, even when they dig up my stuff. We’re all just trying to survive.

Neighbors dog Lemmy and cat Neko have adopted me as one of theirs. Lemmy greets me with a low howl of excitement when I go to pet her. Neko comes to my backyard and will perch on a log waiting for me. Both bring me joy that can not be measured. The picked me and I can’t believe my luck.

Touching the awesomely soft fur on neck behind my pet rabbits ears. Also, in super hot weather I'd freeze gallon jugs of water, and place in their cages. They'd cradle theirself belly against the cool jugs to cool down. And lick the side now and then. Coulda sworn they'd have a smile of contentment...

Stress drains when I hear the sound of water flowing, streams and showers doesn't matter. Also standing on my deck as scarlet paint strokes of a sunset fill me withy awe, then posting shitty pics on IG that don't even come close. I love to pat Jett and scritch behind his ear, it makes him roll his eyes in pleasure and his back leg jiggles in what I think is bliss. Thanks Neko

As a Pacific NW dweller, for me it’s when the rain starts. It makes me feel like everything will be alright, that the world will survive after all, that there will be moss and trees and fish.

I look forward to visiting that part of the world in a couple days for a long weekend. Hopefully some of the amazing foliage will still be showing out. Such a beautiful part of the country year round but particularly in Autumn!

Thank you for noticing Neko,

you have talent in writing.

I suggest toning down the critical eye and getting more drive :) if you are into writing.

I'm so "busy." But, you keep drawing me in with your prose - like petting a horse and the horse petting you back. Thank you!

Eric
