Don’t know how you feel about fish, Neko, but you might want to try some authentic English Kippers. I’m kind of obsessed with them and it’s apparently impossible to find them in America. Anyway, what a fun adventure you’re having with this musical! The fact we could see a London Cast Album not too long after the release of your new LP makes me giddy with anticipation.
Reading your note about the women who died at the hands of Jack the Ripper reminds of the Crossbones cemetery close to London Bridge. Worth a visit if you are near.
Yay London! What a city. If you're interested in Jack the Ripper but disgusted by the focus on the violence he committed and not the lives of his victims, I highly recommend UK historian Lucy Worsley's work. She humanizes the women and recontextualizes their lives. Plus, she's adorable. I love her. https://www.pbs.org/show/lucy-worsley-investigates/
Yes - I love Lucy W.! But I also highly recommend the brilliantly written “The Five: The Untold Lives of the Women Killed by Jack the Ripper” by Hallie Rubenhold - book or audiobook, since I had to have both.
She doesn’t even discuss the crimes themselves or the killer, just deeply researched personal histories of the victims and the appalling exploitation and misogyny most of them endured their entire lives. It’s shocking how little has changed, especially in America.
I love you, Neko. Whether I am reading your words, or listening to your songs, I am always reminded of that “connection as a species”. You make that happen all the time, and I appreciate you and your art and your love of the art in all of us so fucking much ❤️
Always such a treat to read your writing. And I especially love it when you write about music and biscuits. Why on God green earth doesn’t someone make some decent grocery store cookies? They would make a fortune! And don’t talk to me about Pepperidge farms for Christ sake. Hope you have a safe journey back and the lilac scent is still waiting for you.
I read your memoir over the weekend and it made me feel something besides the constant feminist rage that generally fuels me these days - thank you. Have been a fan of your music for so long and now to be a new fan of your writing as well. (PS we are birthday twins, which delights me as much as clouds of butterflies).
An entertaining post, as always! I'm going to Scotland in a couple of weeks, I will definitely be looking for the Tunnock’s Milk Chocolate Caramel Wafer Biscuits.
You are such a damn good writer. Great post. No one can veer from EWR bathroom disgust to Victorian commentary like you. Thanks!!
Haha! Thank you

So exciting to hear about your experiences working on the musical! I love hearing about this.
Tunnocks Tea Cakes! The Caramel Wafer's sister biscuit 😁
Thank you for taking us along virtually!
I am just over the moon excited about the Thelma and Louise project!! Break legs to you and the cast! Love from Oklahoma.

The cheese toastie at Kappacasein, across from Borough Market, is the mother of all cheese toasties.
Thanks for another wonderful piece of writing. I read your book last month and am recommending it to everyone. It’s a gem.
Sweat makes travel look so easy. I love these Thelma & Louise updates, BTW. I had no idea how much work went into a show like this.
I hope the hotel got better. Loved your descriptions of the musical coming together. You got this, Woman!
