55 year-old woman here. Also not old. Same shit happened to me. I overdid it on B6 by drinking too many packets of Liquid IV and developed excruciating pain in my feet. Doc tested my B6 level and it was off the charts high. Took about four days and the pain was gone. So glad MFJ did that research and you got relief! Crazy shit!
Thanks to ManJeff!!! Unfortunately my left thumb pain must probably continue to be arthritis or something not self-induced. So glad you two figured it out -- you are NOT old!
Coincidentally, yesterday I was spinning Randy Newman's "I'm Gonna Take Off My Pants". Not recommended, for you anyway. My Young Fresh Fellows tour-saga-in-song "I Can't Find My Pants" has fortunately never been aired. The situation did cause some concern at the airport in Madrid... Thankfully Jim Sangster provided pajama bottoms that got me back through that nasty Seattle immigration situation.
Hi Niko! Thank you for the supplement advice and warning.
I'm certain London forgives you for waving your fanny in frustration. (I spit tea upon reading)
A physician friend warned me of D3 toxicity: "Some is mandatory, particularly useful before surgery, and has some efficacy with influenza - over 125% of the RDA is to be avoided, as D3 is not water-soluble and accumulates in fatty organs"
Our notion of "supersize that" and "more is better" can be patently wrong.
Edit:
My wife has been complaining of thumb/wrist pain as well. She too is "NOT OLD!!!"
An inspection of her usual "Naturals for Women" supplement shows: "B6 (as Pyridoxine Hydrochloride) 20mg 1176%"
I'm texting The Guardian Oz article and a photo of her vitamin label.
(the other Supplement "50+For Her" has merely 352% of the RDA.
My "Centrum Adults 50+" contains only 3mg - still over the 2 mg maximum optimal RDA)
Lucky for me, I'm hit-or-miss grabbing them only on days that I'm working, thereby having an irregular diet.
Girl— f*ck pants! To commiserate, when I hit my 50’s and the peri— all my vitamins started hitting different. Joint pain— inflammation—everyday I woke up, I just let my body tell me what we could or couldn’t do for the day. Funny thing about getting older, my brain has no idea. I still sound young— my thoughts are youthful— but this merry-go-round needs a haul-over. You have the best laugh-cackle!
Keeeep a movin’ punk rock grrrl. You are doing it! It’s almost book release time!!! Weeee!
taking a few things for my OA in my knees collagen, turmeric etc. I am now going to check thanks Neko, are you touring the UK, that Brudenell Social Club gig from a few years back, wow what a memory you and your band were incredible
All of those are over daily recommended values! Wtf and why?! Yay Manfriend Jeff! I’ve started doing my own reading about most ailments. I don’t trust doctors anymore. 3 years ago I thought my mom had dementia because she was hallucinating people in the room and her personality changed. She also was a runner risk. My brother and I take turns with her at our homes and we weren’t getting sleep because she kept trying to leave in the middle of the night. She never made it out here but my brother caught her walking down his road at 3 am once. Talked to doctors, took her to neurologist. Was getting ready to take her to psychiatrist because no one was helping. Then I came across an article about long term gabapentin use and EVERY symptom listed was what I’d been seeing in her. I weened her off of that medication and got my mom back. I’m terrified of prescription medications and now vitamins too!
Its my first day back to work in 2025 and I woke up late.
Really late.
Guaranteed not to get to work on time late.
And I saw the notification on this new piece and had some coffee and read this anyway cuz it got my day off to a great start and whats the difference between thirty mins late and thirty five mins late anyway?
It’s kind of astonishing how things you can ingest can make you ill. For example, did you know black licorice can raise your blood pressure? I learned this not from my doctor who was surprised to learn this, but from a NPR piece about a 30 year old man who died after ingesting several bags a day. Suffice it to say, I stopped eating it altogether. But where is the warning on the bag?
I learned this last year Greg after dealing with bp issues and being a frequent consumer of black licorice. You also have to check a lot of products for it, such as certain cough drops.
Yikes! Thanks for posting this especially about the supplements. Hope you recover quickly, both from the B6 and the lack of pants! Looking forward to the book. Have fun on the book tour!
One time my husband diagnosed a woman who was suffering from a toxic effect of shotgunning energy/vitamin drinks from Europe. Crazy how these OTC things can really mess you up, in excess especially.
Which NP song were they playing at the airport?
Happy 2025- hope you and the crew have a good one 💖

So glad you got that sorted. Happy new year! ❤️ Also, I Porky Pigged to bed for years. Thanks for the big laugh.
It's the only comfy way to sleep AND be warm! Haha!

You’re supposed to take D3 with vitamin K. That’s what I do. And I’ve been deficient in D so I’m hoping he does something.

You know you’ve got an enduring hit song when they play it in airport bars!

Fantastic info and glad you’re better. Thx for the chuckles too.
